The Kojak Beanie, as Armadillo Merino call it, is a simple, small, light and compact item of headgear that can be worn on its own or under a helmet, writes Mike Gormley.

100% Merino wool, this cap is going to keep your head cosy on its own or for some additional comfort under a helmet, whatever your task for the day may be; climber, firefighter, soldier /marine, or just out for a ride on your trail or mountain bike. Flat-stitched, so no pressure points when worn under a helmet, this beanie has a double layered headband for added protection and security when worn as a standalone hat.

There are three colours to suit your environment – dark navy, light olive and black – plus it is small and light enough (just 28g) to keep in a pocket as a just-in-case item of headwear.

My son Bruce very quickly ‘proffed’ this on a recent visit to the Lake District and for sure it will be made good use of under his climbing helmet when not worn as a stand-alone [©Mike Gormley]
